Girls on a Mission

Lindsey Gibson, Communities In Schools (CIS) site coordinator, has teamed up with The Mission, a local outreach organization, to form "Girls on a Mission," a small group for female students at Hancock County High School, this year.

Students were chosen for participation based on their willingness and commitment to learn how to better themselves and then use that knowledge to help and serve others. During their time together, the group will learn how to recognize Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the value of having a positive support system in their lives. These supporters are referred to by the group as "Impact Individuals."

For their first activity, the girls were asked to identify someone from their education—that is, the one teacher or staff member who has had the most positive impact on them during their time in the Hancock County school system. The students wrote thank-you notes to people they identified as positive role models, along with a memory of how the person influenced their lives.
