Denny’s Breakthrough

When Denny first met his #CISTN program manager, Jennifer Misener, at Park View Elementary, he wasn’t interested in talking - let alone opening up. He was dealing with a difficult home life, frequent tardiness, and growing behavioral challenges that were starting to impact him academically. Understandably, his guard was up.

But #CISTN program manager Jennifer Misener gave him space to be who he was and open up when he was ready. She kept the door open, checking in without pressure and offering consistency when he needed it most. Over time, the walls began to come down - layer by layer.

What started as a weekly “lunch bunch” meeting turned into daily check-ins, moments to reset, celebrate wins, and work through setbacks. Now, Denny shows up to school with a smile, ready to learn. He even comes early twice a week for tutoring in math and reading.

With the added support of extended family and his growing self-confidence, Denny is thriving. His attendance has improved dramatically, his behavior is more focused, and his academic progress continues to build. Most of all, he feels seen, heard, and supported.

We’re so proud of how far he’s come - and so grateful for the power of consistent, caring relationships, like Mrs. Jennifer’s
